February Favorites

By Sunday, March 06, 2016

Monthly favorites are one of my favorite types of posts to read, so I thought I'd give it a go myself. Here are the things I was obsessed with throughout February...

Read
"The Valley of Amazement" by Amy Tan
This book is one of the best novels I've read in a very long time. The characters, the details, the twists and turns in a plot centered around Chinese-American courtesans and relationships among mothers and daughters had me getting up early just so I could keep reading before starting work each day.

Beauty
Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Rhubarb
I try tons of products each month, so the ones that I put in my purse repeatedly are the ones that stick. This was the first product I've ever purchased from this line, but it just applies so nicely, wears well, and is the perfect dark pinky nude shade for me.

Work
Trello
We've been using Trello as our project management system for Lovelyloot for awhile now, but this was the month that I truly embraced it as an overarching team tool rather than just one for development. If you're looking for a better way to keep track of all the moving pieces in your business, I highly recommend this.

Learn
After listening to this book, I was finally able to change my mindset about holding onto things. The advice that resonated with me the most was 1) that items can serve their purpose for you in different ways and 2) they need to bring you joy. There's no need to hang on to a book you never finished or a perfectly good shirt that you never wear - they've done all they can for you so just let them go.

Live
That knowledge inspired me to finally clean out my closet and test a new online consignment service, which worked flawlessly. They send you a huge durable pre-paid bag, you send in your new/gently used high quality items, and they sell them in their online marketplace for you and give you cash. You can also shop and score some amazing deals on fabulous pieces (you get 40% off your first order) and can return items that don't work out. I made nearly $100 from clothes and shoes sitting in my closet – and bought a TSE cashmere sweater for $44, ultra flattering black Theory skirt for $24, and fun metallic Nine West heels for $13. Now I can't stop trolling their site for new items...

Travel
Despite living just an hour away from wine country, it always seems to take a big event to get there – and then every time I wonder why we don't go more often! Thankful for the excuse of a fabulous 40th birthday party for some good friends, we had the opportunity to visit the Silverado and could have stayed for a week in our cushy suite. Don't miss nearby Domaine Chandon for excellent bubbly and fabulous views and Miner Family Winery for an amazing selection of both whites and reds!

Let me know if you liked this style of post – I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  1. Meg has used thredUP for her and the kids. They were some good deals. I looked for something for men, similar to this, but haven't had any luck yet. Has the "special man" in your life found anything like it?

    1. That's cool :) No, but I'm hoping that they add men's to their offerings soon. C. has some things we'd like to sell!
